Did you know that in Spanish there are words that are spelled the same in both the singular and plural forms?
They are called invariable nouns in the singular and plural. In these cases, the number is identified by the article or the context.
Ejemplos:
El paraguas / Los paraguas
El lunes / Los lunes (and the rest of the weeks days ending with -s)
El virus / Los virus
El atlas / Los atlas
La crisis / Las crisis
La tesis / Las tesis
La hipótesis / Las hipótesis
La síntesis / Las síntesis
La dosis / Las dosis
La metrópolis / Las metrópolis
El paracaídas / Los paracaídas
El salvavidas / Los salvavidas
La caries / Las caries
These are penultimate-stress words or proparoxytone words, meaning they are stressed on the second or third syllable and end in -s.
